Making it happen

  • Dream it.

If you’ve ever played rugby or thought about playing then we encourage you to join us here at Oadby Wyggs.

The Club have recently been set up to help provide an opportunity for women across the local area to learn or continue playing rugby. We understand there are a large cohort of women who didn’t have an accessible place to go and play the sport they either wanted to learn, continue enjoying or rekindle their love for.

The Oadby Wyggs Club have been passionate about the introduction of the Women’s Section and this has seen many players come on and off chance and now be an integral part of the team and the club.

From the first session back in January 2021 which saw over 30+ women come and enjoy and introductory session alongside a glass of fizz and pizza, you could tell that this was going to be the start of something special. The number of players who came down to either continue or start their rugby journey was amazing and seeing the same faces week in week out showed that we were creating a brilliant environment.

  • Build it.

In the first competitive season, the Oadby Wyggs Women secured the NC3 Championship, the squad consisted of 8 players brand new to rugby, 12 players coming back to rugby and 5 players continuing their playing careers.

This is something the Team can be so proud of. However, the culture they have created is nothing short of amazing with every member feeling valued and part of something bigger. Training and Match Days becoming a chance to enjoy each other’s company whilst giving everything for the players around them.

This is the reason they won the league in their first ever season because they grew together as a family. Even in the tough times, they pulled together to get a positive outcome. The Club couldn’t be prouder of the achievements of the team and we look forward to seeing just how far they can go.

  • Grow it.

As the Team goes into NC2 next year, it will be a step-up in physicality, skill set and fitness but if there was a team capable of growing into that then it is this Oadby Wyggs Women’s side.

The biggest achievement the club would like to see if that this team sticks together and continues to grow in both size as a squad but also their impact at the Oadby Wyggs Rugby Club.

They have the potential to be a real asset to Leicestershire Rugby and the Club hopes to see this journey continue.

We would welcome anyone who wants to join this team’s journey and we pride ourselves on being able to offer support and opportunities for absolutely anyone, whether you’ve played before or never picked up a rugby ball you will be welcomed with open arms.
