Oadby Wyggestonian RFC Under 15’s
Welcome to the Under 15’s! We have a friendly and very talented group of players who love their rugby and have a strong sense of team spirit, both on and off the field. As an age group we believe that success begins with enjoying the game and welcome players of all abilities whether just starting out or having played for several years already.
We’re lucky to have a team of dedicated and highly knowledgeable coaches. All are committed to helping every individual achieve their very best, whilst emphasising success as being something which is ultimately team-driven. A lively but secure environment for young, developing rugby players is our priority.
The parent/carer group are very social and active in organising events throughout the year from quiz and pizza nights to our end of season tour – a fun weekend of rugby and non-rugby activities which have taken us to various places from Somerset to Norfolk and Derbyshire to North Yorkshire.

COACHING ETHOS & APPROACH:
Rugby should be competitive but fun.
It should be inclusive.
Individual development is best served through development of the team.
Respect for the laws of the game, the club and those we play against is paramount.
We aim to be a successful team.
All players should strive to develop and improve throughout the season.
All coaches should strive to develop and improve throughout the season.
Keep it simple.
In friendly games (which most games are in junior rugby) all boys will be given as near equal game time as is possible – squad numbers, positional requirements and injuries, etc., allowing. For County Cup matches the same principles apply, although it will sometimes be necessary to select on the basis of form and experience, depending on the opposition faced. Ultimately, rugby is a squad game and success is achieved by the whole squad.
MATCH DAY ROUTINES:
For home games players are expected to arrive 1 hour before kick off in white shirt, club tie and black or grey trousers/jeans. For away games arrival is as above but 45 minutes prior to kick off. The aim is to get the boys together as soon as possible so they can begin focusing on the game, both individually and as a team. Normally they will be out on pitch about 40 minutes prior to kick off in order to go through warm up and drills, leaving time for a final pre-match team talk from the coaches.
Training is every Wednesday evening from 7.00 – 8.30 and involves both fitness work and technical skills development. The squad work both in their forwards and backs units separately, and then together, in order to refine match plays and tactics. Players who are injured are always encouraged to attend training if possible so they can be included in tactical developments. Our team has dedicated, trained first aiders, at least one of whom will be in attendance both at training sessions and on match days.
