Colts Update – Coming a long way in a short time

October has seen Wyggs Colts continue their upwards trajectory in both performance and squad numbers. October saw 4 new players make their debut for the club, 2 of these playing their first ever game of rugby. The usual half term interruption allowed a well-earned rest week; the players never say die physicality and commitment had taken a toll with a lot of walking wounded able to recover, ready for a big run in up to Christmas. The most significant result from October was a 19-19 draw with Coalville, a team that had beaten us convincingly only 5 weeks earlier. A sign of how far this squad has come in such a short period.

Off the pitch, we continue to have the support of a wonderful parent group and sponsors. The players and coaches were kitted out with personalised training tops this month, courtesy of Simon Jackson and SDL Surveying. Thank-you Simon, a huge lift for everyone. We have also set up a Movember fundraising team with a target of £500. Looking forward to seeing some no doubt comical face furniture from the lads and grown-ups….. Thursday training continues to attract 20 plus players. This is hugely beneficial for players and coaches, allowing for well planned, intensive sessions based around continuous improvement as a squad and as individuals. At the centre of this is Chris Anderson who will continue in his role as Forwards Development coach for the Leicestershire Under 20’s squad this season. A well deserved appointment and recognition of his coaching knowledge and excellent work with Wyggs colts.

If you know of anyone that wants to become part of a growing squad with County level coaching then we’d love to see you down at Oval Park on a Thursday evening (6:20pm – 8pm)

Finally….
Our next league fixture is a big local derby against Vipers Colts at Oval Park on Saturday 26th November (2pm kick off on Pitch 1) We would love to see a big crowd down on the day. Come along and see what Colts rugby is all about. Take the opportunity to meet and speak to parents, coaches and players and join us for a drink in the clubhouse after the game.

Ryan, Chris, David and Claire.
