Some of you will be aware that, through the hard work of Andy Beevers, the club has produced a book featuring anecdotes and tales of the unexpected from over the years. The book is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Oadby Wyggestonian RFC, following the 1971 merger of Old Wyggestonian RFC and Oadby RFC.
Andy has been around Oadby Wyggs for many years, filling a number of roles and is still a serving member of the Committee, an achievement that was recently recognized by the RFU. This longevity enabled him to reach out to many players who all have their stories to tell – and perhaps some stories they prefer to never tell, in true rugby player’s tradition! Either way, it’s a great read and captures a piece of our heritage for posterity.
Heritage is so important and gives us the feeling of belonging to something that is bigger than the individual – the very essence of being part of a rugby team. The book has a fitting preface written by Andy – catch him around the Club and maybe you could persuade him to sign your copy!!!
