Tough day for the 2s

A tough day for the super 2s against a strong Lutterworth side ended in a 7-52 loss.

Jack Arthur touched down for what was to be the only score of the day for the Wyggs who battled hard and put the effort in, but it was not to be. Credit must be given to Lutts who played very physical and clinical.

Big training week ahead for the 2s, who face Melton next week in another big league game. Hoping to get back to winning ways.

Match Report: Kettering 2nds vs Wyggs 2nds

The second team travelled to top of the league side Kettering, in what was set to be a big battle and a tough game. After big wins in recent weeks the boys came into the match confident and full of belief.

With the 1s at home and the 3s next door to us both against the same opposition it was all set for a great day of rugby and did not disappoint.

Oadby got off to a fantastic start, with fly-half Hari Pathak-Mould controlling things well and getting the score board ticking with two early penalties.

Oadby had a lot of possession in the first 20, with Jonny Levett, Tom Gough and Guy Want all making significant carries through the middle. Eventually the Kettering defence cracked and a delightful chip and chase from Guy Want was finished off by tighthead prop Tom Gough- a great team try.

Wyggs went into half time with a healthy 0-13 Scoreline. The boys agreed that though it was a tough, physical match, the game was defiantly there for the taking.

Kettering came back strong in the second half and if it was not for some great tackles from veterans Gallagher and Laxton they would have got over the line. Eventually Wyggs got some ball back and with a dominant lineout being led by Jack Arthur, the Wyggs started to get field position.

A lovely backs move saw Jonny Levett run in from 20 under the sticks. Straight from the following kick off, Oadby won a penalty and kicked to the corner. A strong catch and drive saw Hooker Sam Allardyce crash over. The Wyggs now got on top and Vice Captain Harry White created a brilliant 2-1 to put Winger Matt Rolfe over in the corner.

Kettering scored a try in the final play of the game, which in fairness to them they deserved.

final score 5-30

Shout outs must be made to young lads Ben Sword and Alan Lunn who both had great games in what was a very physical match.
